A Navy Veteran with over 31 years of experience in private, military and public service, Alphonso Jefferson Jr. is passionate about driving strategic business and economic growth. Currently, Alphonso is the Assistant County Administrator to County Administration at Broward County Government in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In this role, Alphonso assists the County Administrator in the execution of policies and procedures for a full service county governmental entity with human services, airport and port operations, mass transit, public works and jail functions in support of a 6,000+ employee operation and a $4.2B budget.
Before his current position on the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Alphonso Jefferson Jr. served as the Director of the Budget Office where he provided leadership and direction in strategic management, capital planning, budget and financial management for a $1.2B county governmental entity, the 10th largest in the State of Florida.
For over a decade, Alphonso served as a Supply/Logistic Officer for the United States Naval Reserves, achieving the title of Lieutenant before his resignation. During this time, Alphonso provided leadership, guidance and direction to 50-unit members in procurement, supply chain management, inventory, and financial management to support efforts of the Navy’s Sailors, ships, squadrons, submarines and shore stations across the globe. Alphonso’s military experience has made him uniquely qualified in leading teams and managing people towards success, something he brings with him into his volunteer and community-engagement work.
In addition to his professional career, Alphonso Jefferson Jr. is a volunteer basketball coach, passionate about helping young people learn the career-fluid life skills and character traits that are formed through hard work, dedication and team-building. “I love helping communities grow,” says Alphonso. “One of the things I try to do – whether in my career or in coaching – is to help develop people so they can cash in on the opportunities around them.”
A graduate of the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, Alphonso is a proponent of the power of education and the importance of excellence no matter the career field you’re in. In addition to his college experience, Alphonso Jefferson Jr. received the Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt Certificate of Completion from Villanova University, a Certificate of Completion in the Executive Leadership Program from Rollins College, and he is a Certified Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resources Certification Institute and a Certified DDI Facilitator, Customer Service and Leadership Facilitator.
Alphonso Jefferson, Jr. has served as Aixa College Online Faculty Member at the University of Phoenix, Adjunct Instructor at Valencia Enterprises, and Productivity/Business Analyst in the Business Analysis Department at SeaWorld of Florida.
